Where it came from
Korak, Son of Tarzan #38 was published by DC Comics in 1972 as part of a long-running series that expanded the literary universe of Edgar Rice Burroughs. By this era in the early 1970s, DC had taken over the licensing for Burroughs' jungle characters, transitioning the title from its previous Gold Key origins to a house style that emphasized high-adventure storytelling and the evolving artistic sensibilities of the Bronze Age of comic books.
The issue is recognized for its contribution to the wider pulp-inspired comic landscape of the time, featuring cover work and interior narratives intended to capture the rugged, primal appeal of the Tarzan mythos. While series like this were often produced for a younger audience, they are now collected for their commitment to classic sword-and-sorcery tropes and the specific graphic design aesthetics that defined DC's adventurous imprints during that decade.
