Kurameru Kagari #2

Kurameru Kagari, created by artist Akihiro Ononaka, began its serialization in the manga magazine Monthly Comic Beam in 2022. The series emerged as a whimsical, atmospheric steampunk-inspired tale centered on the protagonist Kagari, a map-maker living in the sprawling, labyrinthine mining town of Hakoniwa. The narrative balances a sense of industrial wonder with a touch of melancholy, reflecting Ononaka's distinctive visual style characterized by dense, intricate architectural detail and moody, evocative shading.

The second volume continues the exploration of Hakoniwa's mysterious underground landscape, deepening the reader's understanding of the protagonist's technical craft. Ononaka’s work has been noted by critics for its meticulous world-building and the seamless integration of mechanical elements into the natural environment. The series gained further attention when it was adapted into an animated feature film, which helped solidify its place as a modern entry in the niche subgenre of atmospheric fantasy manga.
