Kusuri no Mamono no Kaiko Riyū #3

Kusuri no Mamono no Kaiko Riyū, or The Reason the Pharmacist Monster Was Laid Off, originated as a light novel series before being adapted into a manga illustrated by artist Muneki Kakuchi. The series explores the intersection of fantasy and workplace bureaucracy, focusing on the titular monster’s struggles within the modern professional environment. Issue number 3 continues the narrative arc, deepening the characterization of the protagonist as they navigate interpersonal dynamics and their own monstrous identity in a humdrum reality.

The design and illustration style of the series lean into a contrast between the whimsical, supernatural design of the lead character and the mundane, grounded setting of a typical corporate workplace. Kakuchi’s art is noted for its expressive character designs, which successfully bridge the gap between traditional fantasy tropes and contemporary slice-of-life storytelling. The series has found a niche audience who appreciate its blend of humor and reflection on societal expectations regarding employment and self-worth.
