Kuzu to Kemomimi #1

Kuzu to Kemomimi is a self-published doujinshi series that emerged from the vibrant Japanese independent comic scene. It occupies a niche space within the medium, focusing on character-driven comedy and the aesthetic tropes associated with kemomimi—human characters possessing animal ears. The series serves as a creative outlet for its artist, operating within the tradition of circle-based publishing where creators explore specific themes without the editorial constraints of mainstream commercial manga.

The design of the first issue reflects the characteristic aesthetic of mid-2010s independent manga, prioritizing expressive character interactions and a modest, monochromatic print style. Its visual language relies on classic manga shorthand to convey humor and personality, which resonated with domestic audiences seeking lighthearted, character-focused narratives. The work is regarded by collectors of independent doujin as a quintessential example of the genre's focus on accessible, episodic storytelling.
