Where it came from
La Zorra y el Cuervo was a prominent Cuban comic book series that rose to popularity in the mid-20th century. Published primarily in Havana, the series adapted the classic Aesop fable of the fox and the crow, reimagining the characters through a distinctively Cuban lens. These comics were central to the country's mid-century print culture, serving as a staple of juvenile literature that balanced educational themes with traditional slapstick humor.
The visual style of the series evolved under various artists who aimed to maintain the expressive, kinetic energy synonymous with the golden age of international newspaper strips. Issue #58 reflects the matured aesthetic of the series, characterized by clean lines and clear narrative layouts designed for wide accessibility. The publication remains a significant artifact of Cuban graphic history, marking a period when local illustrators successfully localized global folklore for a domestic readership.
