Le Jeu de la Mort #14

Le Jeu de la Mort, published in France during the 1970s, belongs to a wave of pocket-sized, sensationalist photo-novels and crime fiction magazines that captivated French youth culture. Issue number 14 emerged during a period when the genre was shifting toward increasingly gritty, provocative visual narratives, drawing inspiration from Italian 'fumetti neri' and the burgeoning interest in stylized, high-contrast action cinema.

The visual language of these publications relied on grainy, staged photography combined with bold, cinematic lettering to create an immersive experience for the reader. While specific authorship of individual issues in this series remains largely uncredited due to the commercial nature of the publisher, the design aesthetic was deliberately crafted to evoke suspense and mystery, serving as a staple of newsstand culture that reflected the decade's fascination with dark pulp narratives.
