Lenore: Muffin Else Matters #1

Lenore: Muffin Else Matters #1, released in 2012, is part of the long-running dark comedy comic series created by Roman Dirge. The character of Lenore, a 'dead little girl' inspired by the Edgar Allan Poe poem, debuted in the late 1990s and gained a cult following for its juxtaposition of macabre humor and whimsical, gothic art. This specific miniseries focuses on the misadventures of Lenore and her companions, maintaining the series' signature aesthetic of stark black-and-white panels paired with quirky, often morbid dialogue.

Roman Dirge is the sole writer and illustrator behind the Lenore universe, and his style is characterized by a distinctive, slightly spindly sketch quality that leans into the absurdist nature of his storytelling. The series has been widely praised by fans of gothic humor and alternative comics for its ability to navigate themes of death and isolation through a lens of innocence. By the time Muffin Else Matters was published, Lenore had already established herself as an iconic figure in underground comics, supported by a dedicated community that appreciates the blend of dark satire and character-driven vignettes.
