Level E - Des Aliens et des Hommes #1

Level E was written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, a renowned manga artist best known for Hunter x Hunter and YuYu Hakusho. Originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump starting in 1995, the series was designed as a science fiction satire that subverted common tropes of the genre by focusing on psychological mind games and human-alien interactions. The Japanese edition was later collected into volumes, and this specific French-language release, published by Kazé Manga under the title Des Aliens et des Hommes, brought Togashi's witty, character-driven narrative to a wider Francophone audience.

The design of the series reflects Togashi's deliberate shift away from the traditional action-heavy shonen aesthetic of the mid-nineties. The artwork emphasizes expressive, often mischievous character designs, particularly regarding the protagonist, Prince Baka, whose alien nature is conveyed through an aura of calculated arrogance and intellect rather than brute force. Upon its release, the work was noted for its unconventional structure and meta-textual humor, earning praise for the author’s willingness to experiment with pacing and tone while maintaining a distinctly polished visual style.
