Where it came from
Lone Wolf and Cub issue 15 is a chapter of the seminal gekiga manga series created by writer Kazuo Koike and artist Goseki Kojima. Originally serialized in Japan during the 1970s, the series follows Ogami Itto, a disgraced shogunate executioner who wanders feudal Japan with his infant son, Daigoro, seeking vengeance against the Yagyu clan. The series is celebrated for its cinematic paneling, stark ink-wash aesthetic, and unflinching depiction of the bushido code.
This issue occupies a critical space in the broader narrative, emphasizing the series' themes of moral ambiguity and meticulous action choreography. Kojima’s design choices, characterized by flowing lines and an emphasis on environmental atmosphere over ornate detail, helped redefine the visual language of mature manga. The series was eventually introduced to international audiences through English translations in the 1980s and 2000s, where it solidified its reputation as a cornerstone of global graphic literature.
