Mahō Shōjo Madoka☆Magica: Anthology Comic #4

The Mahō Shōjo Madoka☆Magica Anthology Comic series was released in the wake of the 2011 anime's massive critical and commercial success. Published by Houbunsha under their Manga Time Kirara imprint, these volumes were created to capitalize on the show's dark subversion of the magical girl genre. Volume 4, like its predecessors, functions as a collection of short-form vignettes and gag manga contributed by a variety of guest artists and illustrators rather than a singular author.

The design and tone of the anthology reflect the fragmented, surreal aesthetic of the original series, contrasting the iconic character designs by Ume Aoki with the disparate styles of the participating mangaka. By inviting different creators to interpret the cast, the collection sought to provide fans with a more lighthearted, experimental look at the characters outside the show's intense narrative arc. It was received as a supplementary piece of merchandise intended for enthusiasts looking to engage with the franchise through a more comedic lens.
