Where it came from
Marvel Comics Presents #143 was published in late 1993 as part of a long-running anthology series designed to showcase various characters across the Marvel Universe. The issue features a multi-part story arc centered on Wolverine, which was a staple of the title during this era, capitalizing on the immense popularity the character enjoyed in the early 1990s.
The cover art and lead story work reflect the gritty, high-contrast aesthetic that dominated comic book design during the mid-90s. While the series was often used to bridge gaps between major crossover events or provide backstories for secondary characters, the Wolverine segments in this period were frequently handled by established creative teams tasked with maintaining the character's status as a flagship Marvel icon.
