Marvel Fanfare #18

Marvel Fanfare was launched in 1982 as a premium, bimonthly anthology series designed to showcase high-quality storytelling and art that did not necessarily fit into the ongoing continuity of the main Marvel Universe. This specific issue, released in January 1985, serves as a prominent example of the title's editorial intent to provide a platform for top-tier talent to experiment with beloved characters without the constraints of monthly deadlines.

The primary feature of issue number 18 is a story written and illustrated by the celebrated creator Walt Simonson, focusing on the character Thor. Simonson, who was already deep into his influential run on the monthly Thor title at the time, used this venue to craft a visually distinct narrative that emphasized his unique drafting style and his deep interest in Norse mythology, earning significant praise from readers for its stylistic cohesion and artistic ambition.
