Marvel Fanfare #31

Marvel Fanfare was launched in 1982 as a premium, anthology-style bimonthly title designed to showcase high-quality creative teams working on characters outside of their usual monthly commitments. Unlike the standard newsprint titles of the era, the series featured higher-quality paper stock and was sold primarily through the direct market, catering to a growing audience of comic book enthusiasts who appreciated a more curated, prestige format.

Published in 1987, issue number 31 serves as a notable entry in the series featuring a story centered on the character Ka-Zar. The issue was written by Mike Higgins and illustrated by artist Bo Hampton, whose work was intentionally evocative and atmospheric to distinguish it from mainstream superhero fare. The title was generally well-regarded by collectors for its experimental approach, though it struggled to maintain a consistent readership given its unique niche within the broader Marvel publication schedule.
