Mega Man: Gear Masters #1

Mega Man: Gear Masters #1 was released in 1994 as part of the promotional material for the Game Gear title of the same name. Produced during an era when cross-media tie-ins were common for handheld gaming, the comic served to provide narrative context for the game, which featured Mega Man navigating stages to reclaim stolen gears. It reflects the broader strategy of Capcom and Sega to bridge the gap between arcade-style platforming and the narrative-driven storytelling popular in 1990s comic culture.

The comic features art styles consistent with the localized manga-inspired aesthetics of the mid-90s, aiming to appeal to the younger demographic of Game Gear owners. While it is rarely discussed as a standalone piece of literature, it remains a significant item for completists of the Mega Man franchise, representing the localized efforts to build world-building depth around the game series in Western markets. Its design is characterized by the high-energy, kinetic illustrations common to video game tie-in comics of that decade.
