Metal Hurlant #3

Metal Hurlant number 3 was published in 1975 by Les Humanoïdes Associés, emerging from the vibrant Parisian comics scene as a radical departure from traditional Franco-Belgian storytelling. Founded by Jean Giraud, Philippe Druillet, Jean-Pierre Dionnet, and Bernard Farkas, the magazine sought to push the boundaries of science fiction and fantasy, offering a platform for mature, experimental narratives that broke away from established commercial conventions.

The aesthetic of this issue was heavily influenced by the visionary talents of Giraud—widely known as Moebius—and the expansive, baroque detailing favored by Druillet. Their work aimed to merge high-concept speculative fiction with avant-garde illustration techniques, creating a hallucinatory visual experience that challenged the medium. Upon its release, the magazine was recognized as a disruptive force that redefined the genre, subsequently influencing international pop culture and paving the way for the English-language version, Heavy Metal.
