My Name is Zero #2

My Name is Zero was published by Antarctic Press in the mid-1990s, emerging during a period when independent publishers were experimenting with manga-influenced aesthetics and gritty, character-driven narratives. This series leaned into the conventions of action-oriented storytelling, featuring a titular protagonist whose mysterious past drove the unfolding mystery. The project was conceived as a platform to showcase stylistic, dynamic panel layouts that mirrored the high-energy flow of Japanese comics while maintaining a distinct American independent sensibility.

The visual identity of the series was defined by a commitment to bold, kinetic line work that emphasized the central character's agile and volatile nature. Throughout its brief run, the title was positioned to appeal to readers looking for concise, self-contained arcs that diverged from the sprawling superhero universes dominated by the larger publishers at the time. While the series achieved a modest cult following, its legacy is primarily tied to the wider trend of the 90s speculative boom, where experimental creator-owned titles frequently pushed the boundaries of traditional comic book pacing and presentation.
