Nakke Nakuttaja #195505

Nakke Nakuttaja, the Finnish translation of the American cartoon character Woody Woodpecker, began its publishing life in Finland during the post-war period. Issue 195505 refers to the fifth issue published in 1955, a time when international comic strips were gaining significant traction among European readers seeking lighthearted escapism. These local editions were typically produced by licensing existing American content from Walter Lantz Productions, adapting the zany, anarchic humor of the woodpecker into the Finnish language for a growing demographic of young readers.

The visual design of these early issues leaned heavily on the established animation aesthetic of the 1940s and 50s, emphasizing bold line work and high-contrast color palettes intended to pop on low-quality newsprint. While the content was primarily reprints of American syndicated material, the production process was handled by local editors who focused on maintaining the frenetic energy of the character. The series is remembered today as a staple of mid-century Finnish kiosk culture, reflecting the broader trend of translating popular western animation icons into local print media.
