Where it came from
Naughty Bits was a long-running, self-published underground comic series created by Roberta Gregory, launched in 1991 following her earlier work on Dynamite Damsels. Issue #5, released in 1992, continued the series' focus on the daily life, neuroses, and social observations of the character Bitchy Bitch. This period represented a significant transition in the indie comics scene, as Gregory utilized the platform to explore feminist themes and relatable personal frustrations with a biting, satirical wit.
Gregory’s design for the series leaned into the classic aesthetic of underground comix, characterized by expressive line work and a raw, unpolished energy that matched the candid nature of her storytelling. The series was well-regarded for its subversive humor and its refusal to adhere to mainstream comic conventions. By the time the fifth issue appeared, the publication had established Gregory as a prominent voice in the alternative press, garnering critical appreciation for its uncompromisingly authentic portrayal of urban life and human fallibility.
