Nausicaä del Valle del Viento #2

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, created by Hayao Miyazaki, began as a sprawling manga epic serialized in Animage magazine starting in 1982. This second volume collects the continuing chapters of Miyazaki’s post-apocalyptic vision, which explores complex themes of environmentalism, pacifism, and the relationship between humanity and nature. The manga provided the thematic bedrock for the 1984 animated feature film, though the written work spans a much larger and more intricate narrative arc that evolves significantly from the movie's plot.

Miyazaki designed the series with a focus on intricate, pen-and-ink detail, utilizing a style influenced by European artists like Moebius. The design of the series, particularly the depictions of the Toxic Jungle and the giant Ohmu, reflects his meticulous world-building and commitment to a distinct, earthy aesthetic. Upon its release, the work was lauded by critics and readers alike for its narrative depth and philosophical inquiry, solidifying its place as a cornerstone of modern manga and a definitive example of high-fantasy storytelling.
