Nightwing #45

Nightwing #45 was released in July 2000 as part of the DC Comics monthly series centered on Dick Grayson. This particular issue, titled 'The Target,' was written by Devin Grayson with interior art by Greg Land and ink work by Bill Sienkiewicz. The narrative finds Grayson navigating the complexities of his life in Blüdhaven while dealing with the fallout of the 'Officer Down' storyline, reflecting the series' recurring focus on the protagonist's struggle to forge an identity distinct from his past as Robin.

The visual direction of this era leaned into a sleek, urban aesthetic, with Greg Land’s polished character illustrations serving as a cornerstone of the title's visual identity at the turn of the millennium. The creative team aimed to ground the character in a noir-inspired, grittier atmosphere, moving away from the more traditional superhero tones found in earlier decades. Upon its release, the issue was met with standard reception from the active comic book community, maintaining the steady, established readership that defined the Nightwing series throughout the early 2000s.
