Where it came from
Oji-san to Marshmellow, a lighthearted manga series by the creator known as音井れこ丸 (Rekomaru Otoi), began its life as a webcomic before being serialized in Ichijinsha's Comic Rex magazine. The series explores the whimsical and gentle office romance between Hige, a middle-aged man with a penchant for marshmallows, and his younger coworker, Wakabayashi. The narrative is defined by its episodic, observational humor, focusing on the sweetness of their evolving relationship amidst the mundane backdrop of daily corporate life.
The fifth volume continues the established aesthetic of the series, characterized by simple, clean line work and a focus on intimate character expressions. Upon its release, the series was well-received for its wholesome tone and unconventional protagonist, eventually inspiring an anime adaptation. The design choices prioritize comfort and humor, reflecting the creator's intent to craft a relaxing reading experience that centers on the specific, endearing idiosyncrasies of its cast.
