Provenance

Where it came from

Okinodoku Desu ga, Bōken no Sho wa Maou no Mono ni Narimashita is a Japanese fantasy-comedy manga series written and illustrated by Kikkaiki. The story serves as a subversion of traditional role-playing game tropes, focusing on the premise that the hero's quest has been derailed because the Demon King has seized the player's save data. The title itself plays on the iconic 'I am sorry, but the save data belongs to the Demon King' line, which is a parody of the classic 'Dragon Quest' game over screen.

The series began serialization online via platforms like Comic Walker before receiving a wider print release. Kikkaiki utilizes a lighthearted, gag-heavy art style to contrast with the typical epic stakes of high fantasy. Issue #15 continues the series' established pattern of episodic adventures and character-driven humor, maintaining its place within the niche of 'isekai' and RPG-parody manga that rose to prominence in the late 2010s.
