On and Off: Work-Life Imbalance #1

On and Off: Work-Life Imbalance #1 emerged during a period of heightened cultural dialogue regarding the boundaries of the digital age and the encroachment of professional demands into private spheres. This series was conceived as a satirical and reflective exploration of contemporary labor dynamics, utilizing the medium of independent sequential art to document the psychological toll of the gig economy and the erosion of traditional work-life separation. Its aesthetic draws heavily from minimalist graphic storytelling, prioritizing stark visual metaphors to underscore the absurdity of perpetual connectivity.

The publication was crafted by independent creators aiming to bridge the gap between sociological critique and accessible narrative art. By stripping away intricate background details in favor of expressive, character-focused iconography, the designers sought to mirror the reductive nature of corporate culture. Upon its release within the indie comic circuit, the issue was noted by critics for its trenchant observation of burnout culture, serving as an early touchstone for those navigating the transition into remote and hybrid work environments.
