On and Off: Work-Life Imbalance #3

On and Off: Work-Life Imbalance is a contemporary zine series that emerged from the independent publishing scene as a direct response to the increasing dissolution of boundaries between professional labor and personal time. Created during a period of heightened cultural discourse regarding remote work and burnout, the series serves as a fragmented, collaborative commentary on the psychological impact of digital connectivity. By utilizing a lo-fi, DIY aesthetic common to modern zine culture, the editors intentionally frame the work as a tactile protest against the sterile, screen-centric nature of the environments it critiques.

The design of the third issue leans into chaotic layouts and mixed media, incorporating found photography and stream-of-consciousness essays to mirror the disjointed experience of contemporary professional life. The contributors, who often remain anonymous or operate under pseudonyms to emphasize the universal nature of their struggle, aimed to create a sense of shared frustration rather than a prescriptive solution. Upon its release, the issue was noted in independent design circles for its evocative typography and its ability to capture the specific tension of the mid-2020s work culture.
