Ōtaru Kokan no Kagayaki yo #2

Ōtaru Kokan no Kagayaki yo was conceived as a niche literary and visual project centered on the atmosphere of the historic port city of Otaru, Hokkaido. The series utilizes a blend of nostalgic illustration and prose to document the city's unique architectural landscape and its intersection with maritime history. The second issue was produced to further explore the interplay between the city's iconic glasswork traditions and the shifting seasons, aiming to evoke a specific sense of 'monogatari' or storytelling within the local geography.

The aesthetic direction of the series is heavily influenced by regional Japanese zine culture, favoring a tactile, artisanal presentation. The illustrations in the second issue focus on the muted, reflective qualities of Otaru's famous canal district at dusk. Upon its release, it was well-received within circles dedicated to local history and independent publishing, garnering quiet appreciation for its deliberate pacing and its commitment to preserving the subtle, fleeting aesthetic details of the Otaru landscape that are often overlooked in mainstream tourism guides.
