Where it came from
Otogibanashi wa Owaranai, or 'The Fairy Tale Never Ends', is a manga series that emerged from the independent dōjinshi circles before transitioning into more structured publication. This second installment continues the series' exploration of dark folklore and deconstructed fairy tales, blending surreal, atmospheric storytelling with a distinct visual style that favors stark contrast and emotive character design. It serves as a pivotal bridge in the narrative, deepening the lore established in the debut issue.
The series is noted for its idiosyncratic illustration style, which intentionally avoids traditional shōnen tropes in favor of a more haunting, sketch-like aesthetic. By subverting well-known fables, the creators aimed to present a cynical but poignant reflection on the nature of storytelling itself. Upon its release, the volume was well-received within niche manga communities for its mature thematic depth and its willingness to challenge the conventional pacing of contemporary fantasy serials.
