Outlaw Nation #4

Outlaw Nation #4 was published in 2000 as part of a creator-owned series by Vertigo, an imprint of DC Comics. The series was written by Jamie Delano and illustrated by Goran Sudžuka, emerging during a period when Vertigo was actively expanding its catalog of dark, unconventional narrative fiction. The story follows Story Johnson, a veteran criminal navigating a surreal and decaying version of the American landscape, blending elements of noir with a distinctly cynical, psychedelic edge.

The aesthetic of the series, particularly the work of Sudžuka, was characterized by gritty, atmospheric linework that complemented Delano's dense, often elliptical prose. The series as a whole was a critical exploration of the American mythos, designed to challenge the traditional boundaries of the crime genre. While it attracted a dedicated cult following among readers of sophisticated contemporary comics, it remains a deep cut from the early 2000s, reflecting the era's editorial willingness to support ambitious, niche storytelling.
