Where it came from
Outlaw Nation, a series published by Vertigo starting in 2000, was crafted by writer Jamie Delano and artist Goran Sudžuka. The title was conceived as a gritty exploration of American identity, folklore, and the decaying ideals of the post-Cold War era, following the protagonist Story Johnson as he navigates a surreal landscape of cultural rot and criminal enterprise.
The sixth issue serves as a pivotal installment in the series' unfolding narrative, maintaining the grim, noir-inspired aesthetic that defines Sudžuka’s visual direction. The series was noted for its dense prose and complex, allegorical storytelling, which aimed to challenge readers' perceptions of the American dream. While it garnered a dedicated cult following for its unconventional approach to the crime genre, it remained a niche title within the Vertigo catalog.
