Where it came from
Outre-Tombe #1 marks the debut of a niche French horror and fantasy anthology series, emerging from the independent comics scene. It was conceived as a platform for atmospheric, macabre storytelling, blending traditional narrative structures with distinctively dark, European illustrative styles that favor moody, high-contrast visuals to evoke a sense of the uncanny.
The series was developed by artists and writers looking to push the boundaries of genre-specific anthologies, focusing on themes of the afterlife and supernatural dread. Upon its release, the first issue was received primarily by fans of underground graphic horror, praised for its commitment to a cohesive, unsettling aesthetic rather than mainstream appeal.
