Outre-Tombe #12

Outre-Tombe was a French horror and macabre comic anthology series that emerged during a period of renewed interest in gothic storytelling within the bande dessinée medium. Launched to cater to readers with a penchant for the uncanny, the series functioned as an episodic showcase for various artists and writers, often blending dark fantasy with stylistic, atmospheric illustrations. Issue 12 reflects the editorial focus of the later run, emphasizing atmospheric tension and the grotesque sensibilities that defined the publication's aesthetic identity.

The visual direction of Outre-Tombe was characterized by high-contrast ink work and evocative panel layouts designed to amplify a sense of dread. Artists contributing to the series typically leaned into chiaroscuro techniques, aiming to create an immersive experience that mirrored the pulp horror traditions of the early 20th century. While the series did not achieve the widespread commercial ubiquity of mainstream Franco-Belgian comics, it gained a devoted following among genre enthusiasts who valued its consistent commitment to dark, stylized storytelling.
