Paul Bunyan vs Dracula #1

Paul Bunyan vs Dracula #1 was published in 2012 by American Gothic Press. The series emerged as part of a creative trend in independent comics that sought to juxtapose American folklore figures with gothic horror archetypes, intentionally subverting traditional tall tales by placing the legendary lumberjack in a supernatural, Victorian-inspired conflict. It was designed to lean into a pulp-fiction aesthetic, blending the hyper-masculine, rustic imagery of the Pacific Northwest with the dark, aristocratic tropes of vampire fiction.

The creative team utilized this clash to explore the boundaries between American myth-making and classic European horror literature. Upon its release, the title gained a modest following among enthusiasts of satirical horror and cross-genre mashups. Critics generally interpreted the work as a lighthearted, visually driven experiment that prioritized high-concept absurdity over traditional narrative depth, cementing its status as a niche curiosity in the landscape of small-press comic books.
