Pifou Poche #117

Pifou Poche was a popular French pocket-sized digest magazine featuring the adventures of Pifou, a small, mischievous, and perpetually hungry canine character. The series emerged from the long-running Pif et Hercule universe associated with the communist-leaning weekly Pif Gadget. By the time issue #117 was published in the 1980s, the pocket format had become a staple of French newsstands, designed for portability and affordability, offering readers a compilation of gag-based comics intended for a younger demographic.

The character Pifou was created by the cartoonist Roger Mas, who gave the dog a distinctively simple, rounded aesthetic and a penchant for repeating the word 'glop.' The series focused on lighthearted, episodic humor rather than complex narrative arcs, mirroring the broader style of Franco-Belgian humor comics of the era. These digest editions were well-received by children and casual readers for their accessibility and consistent character consistency, serving as a reliable fixture in the French comic book market throughout the late twentieth century.
