Where it came from
Piece - Erinnerung an eine Fremde #1 serves as the inaugural entry in a German-language comic series that explores themes of memory, identity, and displacement. Conceived within the independent European graphic novel tradition, the work is designed to challenge standard narrative structures, focusing on a protagonist navigating the fragmented nature of personal recollection. The creative team aimed to mirror these internal states through a moody, atmospheric visual style that favors shadow and ambiguity over traditional page layouts.
The series emerged from an interest in experimental storytelling, positioning the first issue as both an introduction to a larger mystery and a standalone meditation on how we process the past. Upon its release, the work was noted by European comics critics for its deliberate pacing and its refusal to provide easy answers. It is widely regarded as a niche but significant contribution to modern independent sequential art, appreciated for its commitment to a cohesive, albeit somber, aesthetic vision.
