Pre-Teen Dirty-Gene Kung-Fu Kangaroos #2

Pre-Teen Dirty-Gene Kung-Fu Kangaroos debuted in 1993 during the independent comic book boom, a period defined by a surge of unconventional, offbeat characters designed to mimic the explosive popularity of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Published by Brainstorm Comics and created by Sterling Gates and others, the series leaned heavily into the irreverent, counter-cultural humor common in the early nineties small-press scene, positioning itself as a satirical take on the martial arts anthropomorphic trope.

The character designs were intentionally kinetic and anarchic, reflecting the experimental aesthetic that many creators adopted to distinguish their work from mainstream Marvel and DC titles. While the series did not reach the cultural ubiquity of its inspirations, it remains a notable artifact of the nineties direct-market era, representing the experimental spirit of independent creators who sought to capitalize on the era's appetite for eccentric, action-oriented storytelling.
