Where it came from
Professor Xavier and the X-Men #9 was published in 1996 as part of a short-lived series that reimagined the origins of the X-Men for a new generation of readers. This title functioned as a monthly anthology designed to fill gaps in the early continuity of the team, focusing on individual character spotlights and untold training missions that took place shortly after the original lineup debuted in 1963.
The creative direction for this series leaned into a nostalgic aesthetic, aiming to capture the spirit of the Silver Age while utilizing more contemporary storytelling pacing. While the series was intended to broaden the appeal of the X-Men brand to younger audiences, it faced challenges in a crowded marketplace, ultimately ending its run after a relatively brief period of publication.
