Pygmalion et la Vierge d'Ivoire #1

Pygmalion et la Vierge d'Ivoire represents an ambitious entry into the Franco-Belgian comics landscape, drawing heavily from the classical myth of Pygmalion. Published to explore the intersection of aesthetic obsession and the Pygmalion archetype, the series was designed to provide a sophisticated, mature take on the transformation of inert matter into idealized human beauty. The narrative context focuses on the emotional and moral weight carried by the creator when his artistic vision surpasses the boundaries of reality.

The artistic direction of the series relies on a precise, elegant line quality that evokes a sense of timeless sculpture. By utilizing a deliberate, painterly approach to character design, the creators sought to emphasize the cold, marble-like allure of the central figure. Upon its release, the work was noted by critics for its thematic depth and its commitment to a classical visual vocabulary, finding its audience among readers who appreciate literary adaptations and grounded fantasy within the European graphic novel tradition.
