Queen & Country #17

Queen & Country #17 was published by Oni Press in 2003 as part of the acclaimed espionage series created by Greg Rucka. The series follows the life and missions of Sarah Cooke, an operative for the Special Operations section of the British Secret Intelligence Service, and is noted for its grounded, realistic approach to the spy genre. This particular issue forms part of the 'Operation: Dandelion' arc, a tense narrative that explores the consequences of diplomatic and tactical maneuvers within the intelligence community.

The visual identity of the series was defined by a rotating roster of talented artists, with this issue featuring work that emphasizes the stark, bureaucratic nature of modern tradecraft. Rucka’s writing was widely praised at the time for its procedural accuracy and focus on the psychological toll of field work, positioning the title as a more somber and literary alternative to traditional superhero-dominated comics of the early 2000s. It remains a hallmark of mature independent comics, celebrated for its consistency and adherence to its own gritty internal logic.
