Queen in Black #5

King in Black #5, published by Marvel Comics in 2021, serves as the climactic conclusion to the limited series event written by Donny Cates and illustrated by Ryan Stegman. The narrative resolves the multiversal threat posed by Knull, the god of the symbiotes, who had previously enveloped the Earth in darkness. Cates utilized this issue to provide a definitive resolution to the long-running character arc of Eddie Brock, effectively transitioning him from the role of the Venom host to a new, cosmic status as the new King in Black.

The visual storytelling in this issue is defined by Stegman’s dynamic, high-contrast style, which emphasizes the apocalyptic scale of the final battle. As the finale of a major Marvel event, the issue was designed to deliver high-stakes payoffs, featuring significant shifts in the status quo of the symbiote mythos. Upon release, it was noted for its focus on character evolution and its role in bridging the gap between Cates' Venom run and the subsequent relaunch of the title, cementing its place as a centerpiece of modern Marvel continuity.
