Queen in Black: Thor #1

Released in January 2021 as a tie-in to the broader King in Black crossover event written by Donny Cates, this one-shot explores the narrative intersection between the God of Thunder and Knull, the primordial deity of darkness. The issue was penned by Jason Aaron and illustrated by Ramon Rosanas, serving as a spotlight on Thor's role in confronting the symbiote invasion that threatened the Marvel Universe. It was developed to bridge Thor's ongoing arcs with the overarching thematic stakes of the Knull saga, focusing on the character's unique power set and heritage in the face of an existential, eldritch threat.

The visual aesthetic of the issue leans into the high-fantasy cosmic tone established by Aaron's long tenure on the Thor titles. Ramon Rosanas utilizes clean, sharp lines to contrast the dark, fluid nature of the symbiotes with the radiant, thunderous energy of Mjolnir. Upon its release, the issue was received as a competent and visually striking entry in the event series, appreciated by readers for its focused character study and the seamless integration of Thor into the grim, Lovecraftian horror elements that defined the King in Black storyline.
