Queen in Black: Venom Unchained #1

Released in early 2021 as a tie-in to the overarching King in Black crossover event, this issue explores the complex psychic connection between Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote. It was crafted by writer Danny Lore and artist Stefano Raffaele, who aimed to delve into the psychological toll the symbiote's history takes on its host while navigating the chaos of Knull’s invasion of Earth. The narrative fits within the wider Marvel cosmic-horror framework, focusing on the internal struggle for autonomy during a period of total planetary subjugation.

The visual design of the issue leans heavily into the dark, visceral aesthetic characteristic of the King in Black event, utilizing shadow and high-contrast ink work to reflect the encroaching void of the God of the Symbiotes. It was received as a bridge between the high-stakes action of the main miniseries and the character-driven history of Venom, appreciated by readers for its focus on the symbiote's fractured psyche rather than mere combat spectacle.
