Rantanplan #3

Rantanplan, the dim-witted prison guard dog from the Lucky Luke universe, was granted his own spin-off comic series starting in the late 1980s. Published by Dargaud, these albums were designed to capitalize on the character's popularity as a comedic foil to the stoic hero. Issue #3, titled 'Le Chameau,' continues the tradition of the series by focusing on episodic, slapstick humor that plays upon the dog's notorious lack of intelligence and his tendency to misunderstand the world around him.

The creative direction for this series was handled by a rotating team of writers and artists, including contributors like Morris, Xavier Fauche, and Éric Adam, who sought to maintain the visual style established in the original Lucky Luke albums. The design prioritizes clear, expressive linework that emphasizes Rantanplan's vacant expressions and clumsy physical comedy. Upon release, the series was well-received by younger audiences and fans of Franco-Belgian comics, serving as a lighthearted expansion of the Western-themed world Morris created decades earlier.
