Recruta Zero #2

Recruta Zero, known internationally as Beetle Bailey, was introduced to Brazilian readers through the publisher RGE (Rio Gráfica e Editora) in the early 1950s. This specific issue follows the localized adaptation of Mort Walker’s iconic comic strip, which centered on the lazy but lovable private stationed at Camp Swampy. The Brazilian translation aimed to capture the universal humor of military life while adapting the American cultural references to suit a domestic audience, marking one of the earliest successful international licensing efforts for King Features Syndicate.

The visual identity of this edition maintains the classic clean lines and slapstick spirit established by Mort Walker during the strip's formative years. The design highlights the character's signature slouch-hat look, which became a staple of visual storytelling in the Brazilian press. At the time of its release, the comic was well-received as a lighthearted escape, helping to solidify the long-standing popularity of the character in Brazil, where the series would eventually enjoy a decades-long run across various publications.
