Recruta Zero #4

Recruta Zero, known internationally as Beetle Bailey, was introduced to Brazilian readers through the publisher Rio Gráfica Editora during the 1950s. Issue number 4 reflects the early efforts to adapt Mort Walker’s satirical look at American military life for a local audience, maintaining the core slapstick humor while navigating the cultural translation of the character's mundane struggles within Camp Swampy.

The visual identity of these early Brazilian editions relied heavily on the original syndicated newspaper strips created by Mort Walker. The design focused on accessibility and clear, comedic pacing, which helped the title secure a lasting foothold in the Brazilian market. It was received as a lighthearted counterpoint to more serious comic genres of the era, eventually becoming a staple of the nation's newsstand culture for decades.
