Where it came from
Robotech: Mordecai #1 was released in 2003 by DC Comics as part of their effort to expand the Robotech universe through licensed miniseries. This particular story was crafted to bridge narrative gaps in the franchise's timeline, focusing on side characters and specific mechanical operations that were often alluded to but rarely depicted in the original animated series.
The issue was illustrated and written with a focus on the gritty, tactical reality of the Robotech Defense Force, moving away from the sprawling space opera scope to examine individual pilot experiences. It was designed to cater to long-term fans of the Macross saga, receiving a modest reception for its attempt to ground the high-concept technological warfare in personal, human-scale storytelling.
