Robotech: The Macross Saga #9

Robotech: The Macross Saga #9 was published by Comico Comics in 1985, representing the mid-point of a series that adapted the first segment of the seminal 1985 television series Robotech. The comic was created as a promotional tie-in to satisfy the intense demand for more content following the show’s successful syndicated run in the United States. Comico utilized the vibrant, dynamic art style common to the era's independent comic market to translate the show's complex mecha-combat and serialized space opera drama onto the page.

The interior art for the series was largely handled by artists like Mike Leeke and Mike Chen, who worked to capture the distinct aesthetic of the original Japanese animation, specifically the Macross lineage. While the series was aimed at a younger demographic of television viewers, it became a significant touchstone for early anime fans in the West. The comics are remembered today primarily for their historical role in the cross-pollination of Japanese animation and American comic book distribution during a formative period for the medium.
