Where it came from
Secret Defenders #7 was published by Marvel Comics in September 1993, representing the conclusion of a two-part story arc featuring the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange. The series was built upon a rotating cast of Marvel characters assembled by Strange to handle mystical or supernatural threats that required specialized expertise, a premise that allowed writers to pair disparate heroes who rarely shared a title.
The issue was written by Roy Thomas, a veteran architect of Marvel’s cosmic and magical lore, with interior art provided by Andre Coates. The cover and general design aesthetic reflect the 1990s era of comic art, characterized by high-contrast action scenes and a focus on the ensemble dynamics of the team, which in this instance included characters like Spider-Man and Wolverine interacting within the surreal landscapes typical of the series' magical focus.
