Where it came from
Secret Society of Super-Villains #3 was published by DC Comics in 1976 during a period when the publisher was experimenting with villain-centric narratives. The series was created to offer a counterpoint to the traditional superhero team dynamics of the era, focusing on the internal power struggles and machinations of established antagonists such as Gorilla Grodd and Sinestro.
The issue features cover art and interior work emblematic of the mid-1970s DC house style. It was written by Gerry Conway, a prolific architect of DC continuity at the time, who sought to humanize these characters by placing them in leadership roles. While the series was relatively short-lived, it is remembered by historians for its unconventional premise and for establishing the team as a fixture in DC's broader cosmic lore.
