Seven Wives #3

Seven Wives, published by Fantagraphics, emerged as a notable title within the independent alternative comics scene of the 2010s. The series was authored and illustrated by Rich Tommaso, an artist known for his distinctively nostalgic, pulp-inspired aesthetic that draws heavily from mid-century noir and horror paperbacks. The series explores themes of romantic complexity and existential dread, framed within the stylized sensibilities of classic detective fiction.

The third issue serves as a pivotal chapter in Tommaso’s narrative arc, maintaining his signature high-contrast, atmospheric illustration style. His design approach intentionally evokes the visual language of 1950s crime novels, utilizing a limited color palette to heighten the sense of isolation and mystery. Critical reception generally praised the work for its technical proficiency and the author's ability to maintain a consistent, moody tone across the serialized format.
