Shin Ekiben Hitoritabi: Tori Tetsu Nana-Hen #1

Shin Ekiben Hitoritabi: Tori Tetsu Nana-Hen is a continuation of the popular long-running manga series Ekiben Hitoritabi, which celebrates the culture of Japanese railway bento boxes. This specific iteration focuses on the hobby of train photography, known as toritetsu, blending culinary exploration with the technical passion of railway enthusiasts. The series was authored by Hayase Jun, who sought to capture the intersection of regional Japanese travel, specific train lines, and the local cuisine found at stations along the route.

The narrative structure follows the protagonist's solo travels, a hallmark of the series that resonates with readers interested in 'iyashikei' or healing manga that emphasize quiet, observational experiences. Through detailed illustrations of both the trains and the intricate bento boxes, the work serves as a cultural archive of Japan's changing railway landscape. Upon release, the series was well-regarded by hobbyists for its accurate depictions of rolling stock and its authentic, grounded approach to travel writing.
