Shiomi-kun no Kyūtōshitsu Gohan #1

Shiomi-kun no Kyūtōshitsu Gohan, written and illustrated by mangaka Keiko Nishi, debuted as a heartwarming exploration of workplace culture centered around the shared experience of meal preparation in an office pantry. The series emerged from the long-running tradition of Japanese gourmet manga, focusing on the quiet, humanizing moments that occur when colleagues bond over food away from the pressures of their professional duties.

Nishi, known for her nuanced character-driven storytelling, utilized a minimalist and inviting aesthetic for this series. The design of the first volume captures the intimate, domestic feel of the pantry setting, contrasting the sterile corporate environment with the warmth of handmade meals. Upon its release, the series was received as a gentle, grounded slice-of-life work, praised for its ability to find profound depth in the routine interactions of daily office life.
